Museums of Granollers
Museu de Granollers
The Museu de Granollers, located in the city centre, has a highly eclectic collection of archaeological finds, art, decorative arts, ethnographic and numismatic items. The goal of the Museum is to display artistic expression without any chronological limit and it organises permanent and temporary exhibitions with this aim in mind, as well as talks and a programme of activities to raise awareness of art among all kinds of people.
Of particular note are the works by Jordi Benito, Antoni Cumella and Tàpies, as well as two Roman mosaics found in excavations of the city.
The building was opened in 1976 and was designed by the architects Bosch, Botey and Cuspinera, in a Brutalist style. It was one of the first newly-built museums within Catalan architecture in the post-Franco era and is one of Granollers’ most impressive modern structures.
The Museum also manages the Adoberia, the centre for the historical interpretation of medieval Granollers, showing examples of the medieval pre-industrial complex from the 16th to the 19th century and also a part of the medieval wall, as well as explaining the history of Granollers.
Adoberia dels Ginebreda, centre for the historical interpretation of medieval Granollers
Today, Adoberia dels Ginebreda is an archaeological site and a unique place to discover the city’s medieval history based on an important section of the old city walls, the remains of two of the more than a dozen towers that defended Granollers and also traces of the old tannery, the only one that can still be seen today in Granollers.
The archaeological complex forms the heart of the centre for historical interpretation: the ideal place to get to know and explain the city’s growth and transformation from its medieval beginnings to the modern era, characterised by its extensive city walls and a number of crafts, trades and activities, especially related to leather, and a powerful, diversified market.
Museu de Ciències Naturals de Granollers, la Tela
The Museu de Ciències Naturals de Granollers explains the natural heritage of the county and introduces families to various scientific topics: such as discovering bats, exploring the Milky Way and admiring butterflies from all over the world and tropical beetles, two of its most important collections.
The Museu de Ciències Naturals occupies two buildings: one newly built and the other formerly known as La Tela or the house of Píus Anfres, with a tower dating from 1912. These buildings hold the areas for the exhibitions, activities and work carried out by the Museum staff. The surrounding garden has a display of the botany and geology of the county of the Vallès Oriental, an open area where you can walk and enjoy local flora.
Apart from these facilities, the Museum also holds the Planetarium, made up of a dome 6 metres in diameter and a large sofa that can hold 30 people. There are sessions for schools as well as the general public to find out all about the night sky from different locations on the planet or even other objects in the solar system.
La Tèrmica
La Tèrmica is located within the Roca Umbert. Fàbrica de les Arts complex, an old textile factory that has been converted into a centre for culture and artistic creation, providing a number of cultural facilities in an enclosed area.
La Tèrmica was built in 1951 and was the installation at the old Roca Umbert factory responsible for transforming and distributing the electricity used to convert cotton into clothes. Using three different audiovisuals, the facility shows visitors all the original pieces, such as boilers, generators and engines, that formed part of La Tèrmica in the 1950s and have remained intact over time.

Theatre, music and cinema
Teatre Auditori de Granollers
Set up over 15 years ago, the Teatre Auditori de Granollers (TAG) has confirmed its status as one of the most important and exemplary cultural organisations for the city and the county. The building, designed by the local architect Josep Maria Botey, is a venue for plays, dance, music and opera.
It has a remarkable, distinct programme that combines locally relevant performances with touring shows, as well as putting on its own productions and collaborating with a number of educational projects. Of particular importance in its programme are the concerts given by the Chamber Orchestra of Granollers and the Amics de la Unió choral society, with a clear synergy with the music school.
Shows for all tastes and displaying all kinds of artistic disciplines so that everyone can always find something they like and enjoy on the stages of Escena grAn.
A warm welcome to everyone!
Cinema Edison
A new venue dedicated to film and image in the centre of Granollers that combines film projection with training programmes and support for creative projects.
The name of this new cinema pays homage to the Sala Edison, opened in 1906 on the corner between Plaça Maluquer i Salvador and Carrer Thomas Alva Edison (this street name was given in 1933). Once again Granollers has a cinema in the city centre, 12 years after its last cinema closed.
Nau B1 Concert hall
The Nau B1 Concert Hall is the centre for musical creation and dissemination of the Roca Umbert. Fàbrica de les Arts.
Nau B1 holds well-established music projects from all over the country but is also interested in supporting local musical talent. The hall combines a stable programme of concerts by well-known groups with other groups from Granollers and the county who are just starting out in their music careers.
